Happy Thanksgiving! Whatcha Cooking?

Thanksgiving is fast approaching. This year we're headed south to spend time with family and we're excited by the (rumored) deviations from the standard menu including white potato gratin & even some turkey leg confit! Will everyone be sticking with the tried & true this year or branching into foreign territory for their holiday feast?

  1. Let the rumors be confirmed! We ARE going to do turkey leg confit, along with roasted turkey breasts and wings. We also will be doing a Yukon Gold Potato Gratin (as opposed to white potatoes) with caramelized onions and roasted poblano peppers. Add to that a chorizo and buttermilk cornbread stuffing, maple sweet potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts (they're fantastic), and, for the first time ever (and hopefully not the last!), homemade buttermilk biscuits! And, of course, the obligatory cranberry sauces (two types--homemade and my personal favorite--straight outta tha can!). For dessert, there's pumpkin pie and chocolate cream pie. (And for apps, there's the variety of cheeses as well as grilled artichokes!)

    Hungry yet??? I LOVE THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!

  4. For the official record - confit turkey is the BEST turkey of all time! It was absolutely off the hook. Succulent isn't enough of a word, but it's the one on the tip of my tongue when I recall how incredible, crispy, moist and flavorful it turned out. And while I watched most of the kitchen action from afar, it looked relatively easy...just get good quality goose fat from a respected restaurant and go to town. Fabulous!
